[SAP BO] Create Reports

Create Reports in Business Objects

After successfully connecting to the database in Business Objects using your newly built data provider, you are all set to start creating your reports.

New Report Creation in Business Objects:

To create a new report, open Business Objects application and  click New in the standard toolbar or from the File menu.

File -> New

Choose generate a standard report and click Begin as shown in the below pic.

Creating Business Objects(BO) Reports:

Since Business Objects reports can typically access data from different sources like below, the choice is to be made to which data source is used cleverly depending upon the need. I am not going to explain that in detail now because that constitutes another blog, isnt it?
  • Universe
  • Personal data files (excel, text, dBase files)
  • Free hand SQL
  • Stored procedures
  • Visual Basic for Application procedures

Also, a BO report can have multiple data providers. A combination of different data sources can also be used while creating reports.

If ‘Universe’ is selected as data provider, Query Panel window appears. It displays the contents of your Business Objects universe and lets you select data with simple mouse clicks.

The following are the window panes you see from the image.

A. Classes appear as folders

B. Objects appear as cubes (for dimensions), spheres (for measures), or pyramids (for details)

C. It is selected by default and displays the universe’s classes  and objects.

D. It enables you to set options before running the query, for example to specify a maximum number of rows.

E. It displays the universe’s predefined conditions.

F. You can type a search string here to search for objects in the universe.

G. The Result Objects box displays the objects that are included in the query.

H. The Conditions box displays the conditions limiting the data returned by the query.

I. Save and Close button enables you to save the query that you  have defined without running it. You can run it later on by using the Refresh command.

J. When you click View, the raw data retrieved by the query appears in the Data Manager. From the Data Manager, you can edit, accept, or cancel the query.

K. When you click Run, the query connects to the database and the data appears in the report
