Tableau supports grand totals
and subtotals for both relational and multidimensional data sources.
|
Grand Totals
To turn on grand totals, select Analysis
> Totals > Show Row Grand Totals or Show Column
Grand Totals.
To format the grand totals, right-click one of the grand totals and select Format. Then
in the Format pane under Grand Totals, select formatting options.
|
Subtotals
To turn on subtotals for a
specific field, right-click the field and select Subtotals.
To turn on subtotals for all fields, select Analysis > Totals >
Add All Subtotals.
Note: Subtotals are available only when you have more than one
discrete field on a shelf.

Totals on Multidimensional Data
Sources
When you turn on grand totals or
subtotals using the above instructions, the computation is performed on the
server by default. If you are using a multidimensional data source, it is
sometimes impossible for the server to compute totals accurately. In this
case, you can specify to do the computation locally using that data that
you see in the table.
To switch to local computation, right-click the measure being totaled and
select the aggregation you want to use.
